Antibiotic Awareness Week: Learn why antibiotics aren’t always the answer

Antibiotics are life-saving drugs and important for treating infections, like those that can lead to sepsis. However, when antibiotics aren’t needed, they won’t help you and the side effects can actually be dangerous. Any time antibiotics are used in people or animals, they can lead to antibiotic resistance.

Every year the Centers for Disease Control designates a week to focus on raising awareness of proper antibiotic prescribing and use. In 2018 that week is right now, Nov. 12-18.

Take time to learn why antibiotics aren’t always the answer and that antibiotic resistance threatens everybody.
