Dr. Jessica Zitter, MD, MPH practices ICU and Palliative Care at the county hospital in Oakland, California. She is the author of Extreme Measures: Finding a Better Path to the End of Life. Her work is featured in the Oscar and Emmy-nominated short documentary Extremis. Dr. Zitter brings a unique perspective to the conversation about end of life care. She delivers her important message with humility and passion, and inspires us to think about how the healthcare system can improve how it deals with the dying. Zitter describes the “End-of-Life Conveyor Belt,” in which mechanization and protocol override personal preference and collaborative decision-making. From her vantage point practicing the unusual combination of Critical Care and Palliative Care medicine in Oakland, California’s county hospital, Zitter offers a new way to care for the dying, one which balances the best of modern technology with human-centered care. Please join us for this important event on October 7, 2019 at the Holiday Inn and Suites, Sioux Falls Airport.
