Medicare Parts A & B Premiums and Deductibles for 2020

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that the Medicare fee-for-service Part A deductible for inpatient hospital services will be $1,408, an increase of $44, effective Jan. 1.

The Part A daily coinsurance amounts, also effective Jan. 1, will be:

  • $352 for days 61-90 of hospitalization in a benefit period, up from $341 in 2019.
  • $704 for lifetime reserve days, up from $682.
  • $176 for days 21-100 of extended care services in a skilled nursing facility in a benefit period, up from $170.50.​

The monthly Part A premium is paid by approximately 1% of beneficiaries who have fewer than 40 quarters of Medicare-covered employment and certain people with disabilities. The Part A premium will be $458, an increase of $21 in 2020.

The standard monthly premium for individuals with Medicare Part B will be $144.60, an increase of $9.10 from 2019. The annual deductible for all Medicare Part B beneficiaries is $198 in 2020, up from the current $185 in 2019.
