South Dakota Nursing Homes Receive iPads

Nursing homes have become islands of isolation due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Visitor restrictions were mandated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services on March 4th, and since then, caregivers are doing everything they can to keep residents engaged and connected to their family. Recently, the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations, the South Dakota Health Care Association and the South Dakota Department of Health worked together to apply for funding to equip all of the 104 nursing homes in South Dakota with 4 iPads and accessories. The 416 iPads were purchased using CMS’s Long-Term Care Facility Civil Monetary Penalty Reinvestment funds and will be distributed to the nursing homes within the next couple of weeks.
