COVID-19 Impact on South Dakota Providers

SDAHO and Eide Bailly recently conducted a multi-phase project to evaluate economic damages of the COVID-19 pandemic on South Dakota providers. Providers were surveyed on various data points related to lost revenue and incremental expenses caused by the pandemic, including impacts to volumes from outpatient procedures, clinic and ER visits, surgical volume, and skilled nursing care days.

As providers continue to adjust their operations related to the pandemic, our intent is to use this study to support the magnitude of losses, decreases in volume, and likely impacts experienced by South Dakota providers as we move forward, and to identify the need for continued advocacy for providers in the state.

Projections suggest economic damages would likely exceed $550 million in the first 100 days of the pandemic with continued losses expected in the balance of 2020 as volumes lag historical activity.
