Documentary on ‘The Healthcare Divide’ in America to Premiere May 18. A new documentary, The Healthcare Divide, will premiere tonight and is a collaboration between FRONTLINE, NPR and American University’s Investigative Reporting Workshop. The documentary’s website states it will investigate “the growing inequities in American healthcare exposed by COVID-19. The Healthcare Divide examines how pressure to increase profits and uneven government support is widening the divide between rich and poor hospitals, endangering care for low-income populations.” More information on the documentary, including where it will air and how to watch it, is available on NPR’s website.
‘INHOSPITABLE’ Documentary Likely to Premiere Soon. INHOSPITABLE is a documentary feature film that “exposes American hospitals’ significant role in our broken healthcare system,” according to the film’s website. While specifics about the film’s release are not yet posted on the website, it appears that it likely will be released soon as the group’s promotional efforts have started to increase.
Senate Hearing on May 19 on Hospital Consolidation; AHA to Testify. AHA Board Chair Rod Hochman, M.D., president and CEO of Providence, will testify on behalf of the AHA May 19 at a Senate Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Competition Policy, Antitrust, and Consumer Rights hearing, “Antitrust Applied: Hospital Consolidation Concerns and Solutions.” Hochman will highlight the many ways hospitals and health systems benefit patients and communities across the country. A number of witnesses at the hearing are expected to present negative views of hospital consolidation. The AHA will share the association’s statement submitted for the hearing and report on the hearing that afternoon in its AHA Today newsletter.
