IPOP and Dimensions Reporting to Require Passphrases by Dec 15

IPOP and Dimensions Reporting databases will transition to a passphrase requirement. Users need to update their password to a passphrase before December 15, 2021. The new requirement will be implemented for both systems and must be:

    1. Be at least 20 characters;
    2. Be changed every 365 days;
    3. Users must not reuse the last 5 passwords used;
    4. The passphrase must meet the 3 of the 4 character requirements:
      1. Contain upper case letters
      2. Contain lower case letters
      3. Contain numbers
      4. Contain spaces and symbols found on the keyboard (all keyboard characters not defined as letters or numerals)
    5. The password cannot contain the user’s account name or parts of the user’s full name that exceed two consecutive characters.

A few key things to remember:

  • Use a password manager so you only have to remember a couple of passphrases and let the software take care of the rest
  • Vary your passphrase length, but stay above 20
  • Use words that are not common to you, but you can remember
  • Create unpredictable passphrases
  • Misspell a passphrase word or two if you want, passphrases don’t have to be grammar correct
  • Mix in those special characters and numeric characters
  • Spaces are also okay to use
