The Distinguished Service Award for Healthcare Professional goes to Dr. Mike Wilde, Vice President Medical Officer of the Sanford USD Medical Center – Sioux Falls Region. Dr. Wilde is responsible for the medical staff office and serves as a liaison between medical staff and administration.
Dr. Wilde practiced Internal Medicine at Sanford Clinic in Sioux Falls for 12 years prior to his current role. In that time, he was assistant program director for the University of South Dakota Internal Medicine residency as well as serving as assistant professor of medicine at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine. Dr. Wilde was a member of the Sanford Board of Governors and Senior Vice President of Medicine and Medicine subspecialties.
Those who work alongside Dr. Wilde say he demonstrates leadership through his actions. He is thoughtful and realistic when dealing with situations. He is fully engaged and committed to advancing medicine and he makes the team around him and throughout the region look to keep finding ways to be innovative to improve the quality of care we provide to patients.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Wilde has been instrumental with advising and educating the entire state of South Dakota. “Dr. Wilde continued to show his commitment towards advancing communities to not only face one of the most difficult times for many, but also encouraged communities and patients to continue to seek healthcare for their health and wellbeing. Dr. Wilde is involved in local, regional, and state discussions to address the healthcare needs through the state. He was publicly involved with the city of Sioux Falls during council meetings, providing advisory updates on COVID-19. Regionally, Dr. Wilde helped other Sanford locations work with their local officials in advising health and safety for their communities. “Dr. Wilde was instrumental in helping Sanford Health persevere and held steady in advisement to find a balance with local, regional and state to navigate through uncertainty. Michael C. Wilde, M.D. is a Watertown native. He received his medical degree at Sanford School of Medicine University of South Dakota and undergraduate degree from Creighton University. Dr. Wilde completed his internal medicine training at the University of South Dakota. Dr. Wilde and his wife have three children.
