Hometown Healthcare Heroes: Jack Kerner and Casey Heenan

Congratulations to this month’s SDAHO Hometown Healthcare Heroes member facility and community, Winner Regional Health in Winner, South Dakota. This week SDAHO continues to celebrate both the facility and the community. Meet Jack Kerner, Pharmacist and Casey Heenan, Manager Winner Circle Feed Yard.

Jack Kerner

Jack and Casey were both born and raised in Winner, South Dakota and after a brief stint living elsewhere made the choice to move back to their hometown.Ā  Jack says that people who live in his area understand that healthcare is a scarce resource and because of that, he feels there is a higher level of respect given to healthcare professionals. Ā Ā ā€œPeople tend to be more appreciative of the care they receive especially in their hometown communities. They give a high level of respect to healthcare professionals. We get to see our patients and the people we treat everyday whether at the grocery store, out to eat or downtown.ā€ Jack Kerner, Pharmacist

Casey Heenan

Casey Heenan left Winner to attend college and pursue his career in another state, but after being away for about 10 years he and his wife decided Winner is where they wanted to call home. Today Casey manages the Winner Circle Feed Yard and says moving back to Winner was the right choice. ā€œWinner has a great sense of community. There are lots of functions where the entire community shows up whether itā€™s sporting events or fundraisers to support someone in need. Community members have a deep appreciation for each other in Winner.ā€

Winnerā€™s economy is driven by agriculture but according to Casey, the job opportunities in Tripp County are endless. ā€œIf someone came her to work at the hospital or clinic and their spouse was looking for a job, there is endless possibilities. There are ag support jobs such as implement dealers, repair shops and all kinds of businesses downtown. If you move here with your spouse and you own your own job, there are some tax advantages that could help someone further their career and business.ā€ Casey Heena, Manager Winner Circle Feed Yard

Career opportunities within Winner Regional Health are just as abundant with openings in almost every department with sign on bonuses available. Ā Winner is like many small communities across the country, with a robust downtown seeing steady economic growth.
