Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center CEO Scott Larson Talks Rural Healthcare and Job Opportunities

To help member facilities with workforce needs, SDAHO has launched the Hometown Healthcare Heroes campaign. The campaign is designed to recognize and celebrate member facilities, the people that work there and the communities they live in, while recognizing and promoting job opportunities within member facilities. This month, SDAHO is highlighting Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center in Canton, South Dakota.

Scott Larson is CEO of Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center in Canton, South Dakota. The community is in Lincoln County and is the county seat. With a population just shy of 3500 people, both the healthcare campus and the community have big town amenities. “We have an 11-bed critical access hospital, we have a 16-bed assisted living community called Hiawatha Heights and we have an attached rural health clinic in Canton and a clinic in Beresford, which we manage.” Scott says working in a rural healthcare setting has many benefits, including working in a variety of departments. “Those who work here, even for a couple of years can work in inpatient, outpatient, ER, cardiac rehab, respiratory therapy, stress test or others, for a couple years and then you have a golden ticket should you want to move on and work outside of this setting. Or you will come to love working in a rural area, where you can do something different every single day.”

Sanford Canton-Inwood Medical Center is hiring, with sign-on bonuses, incentives for extra shifts, loan forgiveness programs, and the state recruitment fund for up to $10,000 for those who qualify.

Open positions include:
