Meet Team SDAHO: Loretta Bryan, Clinical Improvement Consultant

The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) serves members across the state of South Dakota, offering education, advocacy, networking, and quality integration. Today these services touch all corners of our state giving our members better access to SDAHO resources and experienced staff. Loretta Bryan, BSN, RN, CPHQ, is one of two SDAHO Clinical Improvement Consultants, making a difference for our members.

Loretta serves the southeast and western part of South Dakota, where she works one-on-one with hospital quality reporting. She identifies gaps, provides education, support and training as needed. Working remotely from her home in Platte, South Dakota allows Loretta the ability to make one in-person visit to each of her hospitals, per year. She also provides zoom visits to those she serves as often as needed. Loretta says, “One of my favorite things I do at SDAHO is meeting and getting to know the quality and infection control staff on a personal level and definitely a professional level. Doing these zoom calls and interacting with them is really fun to see what they are doing at their hospitals and how I can make their day easier by showing them how they can enter their data and what their data means, why they are doing what they are doing. Plus, I can give them the resources they need to help get their work done every month.”

Loretta began her healthcare career as a nurse’s aide in high school. From there she knew she wanted a career in healthcare. She attended the University of South Dakota and has been a RN for 25 years. “One of my favorite things over the years has been working in home healthcare.  I did that for several years. I also did pediatric home healthcare, where I managed different pediatric cases for them in their home.” Prior to working for SDAHO, Loretta was with Douglas Memorial Hospital in Armour, South Dakota where she worked as a floor nurse, resource nurse, in addition to working infection control and quality. Loretta’s years of clinical experience combined with the latest tools and resources offered through SDAHO has help make the Quality Integration team one of the leading experts in Quality, which directly supports our members.

Loretta and her husband have two young boys and when she is not working, they enjoy spending time on the Missouri River. “We are just 10-miles from the river, so we really enjoy going to the river. We can just put the boat in on a Wednesday night if we want to because we live so close. But the best thing we like to do is just being together at home.”
