Hometown Healthcare Heroes: Small Communities are Great Places to Grow a Healthcare Career

The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations is excited to continue to celebrate Bowdle Healthcare Center for being SDAHO’s Hometown Healthcare Hero recipient.

To help member facilities with workforce needs, SDAHO launched the Hometown Healthcare Heroes campaign. This storytelling campaign is designed to recognize career opportunities at member facilities and celebrate the people that work there and the communities they live.

When it comes to workforce options – there are many choices across the United States, especially in the healthcare industry. For many, choosing a small community in rural America has made all the difference between a successful job and a thriving career!

Melanie Kaiser, RN, is the Home Health and Public Health Manager with Bowdle Healthcare Clinic in Bowdle, South Dakota. “Small communities are the best for raising your family. It is like a little family because people look out for each other. They help take care of each other and each other’s children. They truly care about each other.” Healthcare professionals are a unique and part of a special profession, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. Working in healthcare in a rural community and adds an extra amount of generosity for your follow colleague, neighbor and community, according to Melanie. “Everyone is warm and welcoming. Everyone is eager to help when you need help and offer things that other places don’t always do.” In addition, the patients receive top quality care. “The patients are not a number here; they are definitely treated like a person, and they receive that top quality care that they deserve.” In addition to the many offerings that Bowdle Healthcare Center offers its patients, there is a very good trauma team helping patients during their greatest needs.
