Nursing Home Summer Study a Main Focus in WNAX Interview

The South Dakota Legislature took a deep dive into the challenges facing nursing homes in South Dakota this session. There were bills that became law to improve funding for nursing homes and there were discussions about long term solutions to assist with workforce challenges in many of our long-term care facilities. State Senator Jean Hunhoff of Yankton has been a champion of healthcare for many years and this year the Senator helped push one of this year’s summer studies that will look at nursing homes in South Dakota. Last week the Senator joined Jerry Oster of WNAX Radio to talk about the study and what she hopes will come from the work done this summer. Sen. Hunhoff stated, “Most Small towns don’t have the workforce needed to staff long term care facilities.” In addition, Hunhoff shared with listeners she wants solid legislation coming out of the summer study committee when it wraps up this fall.
