Nurse Education, Practice, Quality & Retention – Clinical Faculty & Preceptor Academy

South Dakota State University (SDSU) and practice partners have been invited to be a part of a Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant that will be extending many educational opportunities for nurse preceptors over the next 4 years. The grant is named “Nurse Education, Practice, Quality & Retention – Clinical Faculty & Preceptor Academy” (NEPQR-CFPA). The goal of the grant is to increase the number of skilled and qualified nursing faculty and preceptors in CO, MT, ND, SD, UT and WY.

LeAnn Lamb and Becka Foerster are the grant liaisons for SDSU. Please email LeAnn and Becka at LeAnn.Lamb@sdstate.edu and Becka.Foerster@sdstate.edu if you are interested in either of these courses prior to registering as spaces for each of the 6 states involved in the grant are limited each session.

The Preceptor 101 Course is offered on five Wednesdays 8:30-9:30am CST/7:30-8:30am MST starting October 4 through November 1. This Preceptor 101 Course is 5 one-hour sessions and worth a NCPD credit. This course is free and is open to faculty and nurse preceptors. This course is via Zoom and/or web-based programming and will include mini-lectures with small group breakout sessions and large group debriefing sessions. At the conclusion the 5 sessions, you will also receive a $200 stipend. If you are interested in this course, please register at Preceptor Training – Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence (coloradonursingcenter.org) using the promo code REGION8. Please email LeAnn and Becka to track attendance from our state.

Additional free courses via the grant (normally cost $1,800 to attend) that are available include a Clinical Scholar Workshop and AHEC Preceptor Course. The Clinical Scholar Workshop is a more intensive synchronous educational opportunity as it is 5 days and 8 hours each day. The next opportunity for this will be October 16-20, 2023. The Clinical Scholar Workshop will offer a $700 stipend upon completion of the entire workshop and 3 coaching sessions you can schedule on your own time. If you are interested in this course, please register at coloradonursingcenter.org using the promo code REGION8. Please email LeAnn and Becka to track attendance from our state.

The AHEC Preceptor Course will be asynchronous and self-paced. Access to the AHEC Preceptor Course is not available yet, but we will communicate this opportunity as it becomes available.
