Legislative Update: Week 5

We are officially halfway through the 2024 Legislative session and so far, the SDAHO advocacy team feels good about the work done so far, but there is still more work to be done. SDAHO is officially tracking 87 pieces of legislation, with the majority of those within the “monitor” category. Over the past few weeks we’ve had several wins to report on, as all the bills below we have successfully helped pass, as they wait for final passage from the Governor:

  • HB 1012 – adopt the interstate counseling licensure compact and revise educational requirements to comply with the compact. Delivered to the Governor
  • HB 1013 – adopt the advanced practice registered nurse compact. Delivered to the Governor
  • HB 1015 – adopt the social work licensure compact.
  • HB 1017– adopt the psychology interjurisdictional licensure compact

Helping to defeat poor legislation is just as important as passing good legislation. A few bills that SDAHO opposed were successfully sent to the 41st legislative day, which effectively kills the bill. Members of the House Health and Human Services Committee voted unanimously to send both bills to the 41st day.

  • HB 1166 – clarify determinations regarding the wearing of facemasks. Members of the House Health and Human Services Committee voted 12-0 to send the measure to 41st Day.
  • HB 1168 – require the dispensing of drugs prescribed for an off-label use during a public health emergency.
