The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) is excited to announce the addition of our fifth Guardianship educational video, to assist our members and caregivers with decision making.
SDAHO’s Guardianship video series titled: The Role of a Guardian provides several short form produced videos focusing on a variety of issues. The videos are written and produced by:
- Michele Snyders MSW, CSW-PIP, APHSW-C, Hospice and Palliative Care Program Manager with SDAHO
- Mari Perrenoud, RN, MSA, CHPN, Community Partner Care Coordinator, Avera@Home
- Cameo C. Anders, JD, MA, CAP, CTFA, AVP Trust Officer, Plains Commerce Bank
Guardians are asked to be responsible for many things when they are appointed. Included in these requirements is the responsibility to advocate for the protected person’s healthcare. For some, this can be a difficult task, especially if one is asked to make life-sustaining treatment decisions. While there is some training for new guardians, it does not necessarily focus on the information needed to help guardians make medical decisions. Recognizing this difficulty, LifeCircle of SD has developed training videos, worksheets, and educational resources for guardians specific to making healthcare decisions for a protected person.
The latest Guardianship video focuses on Artificial Nutrition and Hydration. This latest video continues the conversation on Life Sustaining Treatments, which were introduced in video #4.
Viewers will gain a better understanding of the ways artificial nutrition and hydration are administered.
