CAPC’s 2024 Serious Illness Scorecard

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) recently released the 2024 Serious Illness Scorecard which rates each state’s capacity to deliver high-quality care to people living with a serious illness. CAPC hosted a briefing where they discussed the scorecard and the methodology behind gathering information from each state. The recording is available here. The Scorecard provides an in-depth report on each state’s palliative care landscape, comparisons to other states across the country, and actionable recommendations to improve access to palliative care. South Dakota scored 2.0 out of 5.0 on readiness and capacity to care for those with a serious illness.

Save the date. LifeCircle South Dakota’s Hospice and Palliative Care Network will be hosting an educational event on Wednesday, February 12 from noon to 1 p.m. CST with Stacie Sinclair, CAPC’s Associate Director of Policy and Care Transformation. She will review the scorecard and provide practical, actionable recommendations for state policymakers, palliative care champions and advocates to improve care within our state. The link to register for the education will be on the SDAHO February Calendar of events soon.
