Understanding Recent Changes to Post-Sexual Assault Medical Care

SDAHO also recently provided education on changes impacting post-sexual-assault medical care in South Dakota. On July 9, SDAHO presented “SD Law Changes in Post Sexual Assault Medical Care,” providing a comprehensive review and discussion of amendments to SDCL 22.22.26.

The session addressed changes regarding which medical personnel may conduct a medical-forensic examination and the requirements for hospital and clinic policies related to available post-assault care. The webinar also included an overview of eSANE/teleSANE, an important component of the new law changes that can help expand access to specialized sexual assault examination expertise.
