As the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) celebrates 100 years of service, the association is recognizing the leaders whose dedication and commitment have helped shape its history and strengthen healthcare across South Dakota.
During SDAHO’s Annual Convention in September, a special recognition took place during the awards celebration, honoring the 2026 Board of Trustees and unveiling a new centennial commemorative plaque. Featuring the names of this milestone year’s board members, the plaque now hangs in SDAHO’s Sioux Falls office alongside the original plaque installed in 1986, when the building became the association’s home.
The recognition extended beyond the current board to honor the many individuals who have contributed their time and expertise through SDAHO’s Board of Trustees, councils, committees and working groups throughout the years.
Honoring the Legacy of Leadership
As part of the celebration, SDAHO recognized seven past and current board members who have dedicated 10 or more years of service to the association:
- Eric Hilmoe – 15 years
- Mark Schmidt – 14 years
- Paul Hanson – 11 years
- Mark Burket – 10 years
- Curt Hohman – 10 years
- Tammy Miller – 10 years
- Erica Peterson – 10 years
Their longstanding leadership and commitment have made a lasting impact on SDAHO and the healthcare communities it serves.

Legacy and Leadership Award Presented to Eric Hilmoe
A special highlight of the celebration was the presentation of SDAHO’s Legacy and Leadership Award to Eric Hilmoe, Chief Operating Officer of Sanford USD Medical Center.
Hilmoe began his board service in 2004 and has served a total of 15 years, more than any other living SDAHO board member. His commitment continues today as a current member of the Board of Trustees.
As SDAHO reflects on a century of service, the association extends its sincere appreciation to all who have served in leadership roles. Their dedication has helped build a strong foundation for SDAHO’s next 100 years of advancing healthy communities through a unified voice.
