Sioux Falls and Rapid City make top 100 list for health care

Healthgrades, a leading online resource for information about physicians and hospitals, released its 2019 National Health Index last week and two South Dakota cities made the list. Sioux Falls ranked 14 out of the top 100 cities and Rapid City came in at 82. The study examines cities across the U.S. to determine the top 100 that are leading the way in health care.

Researchers evaluated more than a dozen variables grouped into four health care factors to determine rankings. The factors include whether residents of each city were healthy overall; if consumers had access to healthcare; if local specialists achieved high results in patient satisfaction and physician count per capita; and if patients had access to high-quality hospitals.

The rankings used data outlined in the Healthgrades 2019 hospital quality analysis.
