The Commonwealth Fund recently released its 2019 Scorecard on State Health System Performance, which ranks all 50 states on key measures of health. Researchers looked at 2017 data from all 50 states on 47 factors that impact health outcomes; including insurance coverage, health care access, obesity, and smoking. Overall, the researchers found that most states are losing ground on key measures related to life expectancy, which researchers attributed in part to rising rates of suicide, alcohol misuse, and drug-related overdoses.
South Dakota ranked 23rd overall. For more information on South Dakota rankings, view the South Dakota Scorecard.
