How would you respond with an EMTALA complaint?

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) is a hot topic and should be on the radar screen for every hospital.  Hospitals are now experiencing an increase in the number of deficiencies and increased activity from The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) and the Officer of Inspector General (OIG). EMTALA penalties have more than doubled and a recent article showed that 30 percent of US hospitals and 34 percent of Critical Access Hospitals have violated EMTALA in the last decade.

Sue Dill Calloway, R.N., J.D., President of Patient Safety and Healthcare Consulting and Education has developed a three-part education series that includes the regulation and interpretive guidelines surrounding the federal EMTALA law.  This program is structured to make the requirements understandable with the liberal use of examples.
