Public Health Emergency and Unwinding Medicaid

On April 1 the Department of Social Services (DSS) began the process of unwinding Medicaid continuous enrollment due to the public health emergency. DSS plans to review Medicaid recipients over a nine-month period, with no more than one ninth of the population being deemed ineligible in a single month. If they believe a recipient would be eligible for Medicaid Expansion on July 1, they will communicate that with the recipient, as well as send a reminder in June. The most important thing SDAHO members can do is work with this population to assure their Medicaid eligibility information is as up to date as possible. To learn more, visit the DSS Medicaid Eligibility Changes website or contact SDAHO’s Director of Fiscal Policy, Jacob Parsons.

Join SDAHO on April 26 as Nancy Ruzicka will discuss the end of the public health emergency and what providers need to know. This webinar will include explanation of the blanket waivers of Medicare’s conditions of participation, telehealth waivers, fraud and abuse waivers, agency enforcement discretion, and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability and Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act implications.
