The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations is excited to showcase our member facility Fall River Health Services (FRHS), as this month’s Hometown Healthcare Hero. Learn more about career opportunities and what it could be like living in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
To help member facilities with workforce needs, SDAHO launched the Hometown Healthcare Heroes campaign. This storytelling campaign is designed to recognize career opportunities at member facilities and celebrate the people that work there and the communities they live.
Garry Strauser, a Fall River Health Services Board of Trustee member moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota in 1987. “It’s a blessing for me to have worked here all these years in a volunteer capacity. I think most of the people that live in Hot Springs are blessed to be here, and the people here are so welcoming.” Dr. Garry Strauser, Fall River Health Services Board of Trustee, Secretary.
Garry worked for the VA Black Hills Health Care System, until his retirement and through much of his time served FRHS on the Board of Trustees. The leadership and staff at FRHS are a professional team committed to excellent, quality, and patient focused healthcare for the whole person. The system provides for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the individual, family, and significant others, committed to their patients, employees and the public. “Having lived here for 35 years I still did not know until just recently that Hot Springs has the warmest year-round average temperature in the state of South Dakota. Kimberly Weisser works in Central Registration. Kimberly says staff is comprised of professionals who have been there less than a year and others who have worked for FRHS their entire careers. “I am really impressed by the quality of care here, not just by our medical providers that do one on one patient care but everyone. It’s wonderful a person can come in and they know they will be taken care of from the time they check in until the time they check in and walk out the doors.” Kimberly Weisser, Lead, Central Registration
Kathy Meyers is a Certified Pharmacy Technician with FRHS. She says the system is very active in the community giving back through volunteerism, assisting with high school athletics and being available for community events and activities. “We are very active in the athletic department in the schools, and we try to reach out to the public and make sure they have information they need.
