Congratulations to this month’s SDAHO Hometown Healthcare Heroes recipient, Monument Health Sturgis Hospital and Clinic located in Sturgis, South Dakota.
To help member facilities with workforce needs, SDAHO launched the Hometown Healthcare Heroes campaign. This storytelling campaign is designed to recognize career opportunities at member facilities and celebrate the people that work there and the communities they live in.
Monument Health Sturgis Hospital and Clinic is in Sturgis, South Dakota, located in the northern Black Hills of the Rushmore state. This unique health care facility sits in a town with a population of just over seven thousand people, the services it offers is more like those from a bigger health care facility. The team dynamic within Monument Health Sturgis Hospital is a mix of veteran and newer healthcare professionals, including many born and raised in the area and others moving to Sturgis from other parts of the country. “We love newcomers because the more we can train new people the better the staff and team we will have. Andrea Casteel moved to Sturgis from North Dakota and enjoys the small town atmosphere, both at work and at home. “Everyone is so friendly here. I say hi to everyone, we all know each other’s names here at work. It’s a small town so you get more personalized healthcare, so as a patient your doctor really knows you. In addition, the hospital is co-located with Monument Health Sturgis Care Center, an 84-bed skilled nursing environment. Monument Health also provides the community with a primary care clinic in Sturgis with a primary care clinic and urgent care services that are open 7 days a week. Sturgis is most notable for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally that happens each August and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the area. Amanda Anglin is the Executive Director of the Sturgis Economic Development Corporation, “We are much more than the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. As a community we have ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, we are centered in the Black Hills which is the most beautiful place in our state with endless opportunities for things to do and see. Sturgis offers families an elementary school, intermediate school, middle school, and high school. “Sturgis is a safe community. We have a great police department, a sheriff’s department and a large fire department and ambulance service. The access to the wide range of services at the hospital and clinic is well received. Professional growth and development is part of the mission at Monument Health.
