Learn more about how South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) members can join the DoNation Campaign to register organ, eye, and tissue donors.
SDAHO has joined LifeSource and other workplaces and organ procurement organizations across South Dakota and the nation, in DoNation—the national campaign uniting America’s workforce for organ, eye, and tissue donation. This national initiative, sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, challenges workplaces to create donation-friendly workplace communities that educate and engage employees and the community about the crucial need for organ donation, and gives them opportunities to sign up as organ, eye, and tissue donors.
Workplaces of all sizes and across all sectors participate in DoNation’s lifesaving and life-giving mission. More than 630,000 people added their names to the organ donor registry throughout the lifetime of the campaign. Currently in our community, 3,000 people are waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. Only 1% of people will meet the extensive criteria that allows one to donate.
LifeSource is on the front lines of organ donation across our region. They are passionate and committed first responders who specialize in the process of organ donation, see transplants reach waiting recipients, support donor families, and inspire people in communities across the upper Midwest to register as donors. LifeSource serves the second largest geographical region focusing on Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of Wisconsin. To learn more about LifeSource, visit their website here.
Sheena Thomas, SDAHO’s Marketing and Communication Coordinator, has overseen the efforts to educate members about LifeSource and the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donations.“SDAHO is proud to participate in this campaign every year. Through our own communication efforts and more, we work hard to educate not only our members but the public about the importance of organ, eye and tissue donations. “This past year HRSA/DoNation awarded SDAHO once again with platinum status for the 2022-2023 year. From those efforts, LifeSource recognized SDAHO with the Excellence in Partnership to SDAHO. “This recent recognition shows SDAHO’s dedication in creating and cultivating a partnership with LifeSource and our member facilities.” said Thomas.
You may be an organ donation professional or a DoNation workplace partner. Or you might want to help share the importance of organ donation in your community. Either way, join us in the effort to save lives.
