Grant Spotlight: August 2024

Does your organization apply for and receive federal grants? If so, are you aware that the Uniform Grant Guidance is changing? The Uniform Grant Guidance (UGG) is the government wide framework for grants management and provides an authoritative set of rules and requirements on federal awards. The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) reviews the Uniform Grant Guidance every five years and makes changes and updates to help clarify the requirements. To help our members who receive federal grant funds, below is a list of a few of the upcoming changes. These changes will be effective for awards issued on or after October 1, 2024.

• Key items
  • • The de minimis rate is increased from 10% up to 15% over modified total direct costs
    • Subawards can be counted in the modified total direct cost base up to $50,000 per sub award
    • Administrative closeout costs (salaries of personnel preparing final reports, publication and printing costs, and the cost with the disposition of equipment and property) may be incurred until the due date of the final reports. This cost must be liquidated prior to the due date of the final report (s) and charged to the final budget period of the award unless otherwise specified by the Federal agency
    •  Audit and single audits are required for expenditures of $1 million or more in federal awards over the course of the grantee’s fiscal year

In addition, SDAHO will have a grant session at this year’s Annual Convention titled Navigating the Grant Sea Alone: Mastering the Art of Sole Grant Management.
