April 16 is National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD). This annual event is held to inspire, educate and empower the public and providers about the importance of advance care planning. It is a day dedicated to having meaningful conversations about goals of care and making decisions about your advance care plans.
Are you wanting to increase your knowledge on how to do advance care planning? There are several training opportunities for healthcare professionals to gain the skills needed for effective advance care planning conversations. One resource is The Hospice Foundation of America (HFA). HFA offers cost-effective Five Wishes® Advance Care Planning Training Courses. The courses are designed for those who facilitate advance care planning conversations, including those who deliver community education programs. Continuing education is available for nurses and social workers. Successful completion of the courses offers participants the opportunity to apply for Five Wishes® certification.
