Medication management for perinatal mental health conditions

Bridging Information and Resources to Transform Health for South Dakota Parents (BIRTH-SD): Assessing Need and Implementing Maternal  health safety bundles — is a federally funded grant program based at South Dakota State University (SDSU). The initiative supports healthcare facilities across South Dakota in implementing patient safety bundles developed by the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) quality improvement projects designed to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality.

From May 2025 through August 2027, the BIRTH-SD-AIM team is focusing on the Perinatal Mental Health Conditions bundle. As part of this effort, the program offers monthly educational opportunities for healthcare professionals and support service providers who want to expand their knowledge of perinatal mental health care.

This October and November, BIRTH-SD-AIM will host a two-part virtual education series on Psychiatric Medication Management During Pregnancy and the Postpartum Period. The sessions will be led by Dr. Lindsay Standeven, a reproductive psychiatrist and faculty member at the Colorado University School of Medicine. With over a decade of experience managing complex perinatal mental health cases, Dr. Standeven will provide foundational knowledge and answer participant questions related to medication use and management during this critical time.

Both sessions will take place virtually via Zoom and will be recorded. Recordings will be shared with all registered participants — so even if you cannot attend live, please register to receive access.
