House Budget Committee narrowly approves AHCA
The House Budget Committee on Thursday narrowly approved the American Health Care Act (ACHA), with three Republicans joining Democrats in opposition to the legislation. The committee voted 19-17 for the House Republican bill to repeal and replace parts of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and the AHCA now heads to the Rules Committee before going up for debate on the House floor.

Senate confirms Verma as CMS administrator
The U.S. Senate on Monday confirmed Seema Verma to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Verma, a health policy consultant founded SVC Inc. and serves as its president and CEO, was approved as CMS administrator on a 55-43 vote.
Trump nominates Gottlieb to serve as FDA commissioner
President Donald Trump on Monday nominated Dr. Scott Gottlieb to lead the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Gottlieb, a 44-year-old physician, is a fellow at the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, researching health policy, regulation and public health.
CBO: AHCA would cause 24 million to lose coverage, reduce deficits by $337B
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Monday that the House Republican bill to repeal and replace parts of the Affordable Care Act would cause 24 million people to lose health insurance within a decade but reduce federal deficits by $337 billion.
