Overview:

In this session, news and trends in Assisted Living operations and standards will be reviewed from a national perspective. Cory Kallheim, VP of Legal Affairs, and Dee Pekruhn, Dir. Of Life Plan Community Services and Policy, LeadingAge, will discuss the topic in four core areas: national standards and the OSHA ETS; current trends in AL; resident rights and responsibilities; and a discussion on training and education.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the latest progress on the development of national standards of practice for Assisted Living, and review how the new OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard will impact AL providers.
  2. Examine current trends in Assisted Living, such as development and design, fluctuations in occupancy, and the effect of downsizing of skilled nursing facilities on Assisted Living providers and residents.
  3. Review resident rights and responsibilities for Assisted Living providers and discuss key areas of especially concern to ombudsmen.
  4. Discuss the development of education and training materials tailored to Assisted Living employees and managers.
