Philip Health Services announces nursing home expansion

Philip Health Services, Inc recently announced that they have been approved by the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) to add 12 beds to their existing nursing home. With this addition, the facility increases their total number of nursing home beds to 42. The expansion project is expected to be completed in early 2019.

The DOH regulates the number of nursing home beds in the state based on need and funding. The state has not approved any new beds since the early 1980s, but changes in demographics across the state have resulted in some consolidations and closures creating a “pool” of long term care beds which the state re-allocates guided by a request for proposal (RFP) process.

The state also recently approved additional nursing home beds for facilities in Hot Springs and Rapid City.
