CDC launches new “Be Antibiotic Aware” campaign

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a new campaign called “Be Antibiotic Aware” that includes new educational and promotional materials about appropriate antibiotic prescribing and use.

It is recognized that antibiotics can be a lifesaving medication when used appropriately, however they can also cause side effects and lead to antibiotic resistance when overused. The CDC reported that at least 80 million antibiotic prescriptions each year are unnecessary, which makes improving antibiotic prescribing and use a national priority.
