Long-term government shutdown averted; short-term funding agreement reached

Early Friday morning Congress passed a funding agreement that will keep the government running through March 23. The agreement raises the debt ceiling and sets spending levels for the next two years, raising defense and domestic spending by approximately $300 billion.

Included are a number of health care related provisions, as well as $90 billion in disaster relief funding for areas hit last year by hurricanes and wildfires.
