Stories from the frontline: Health care providers’ tales of evacuation

On a daily basis there are news reports about emergencies or disasters striking somewhere in the world. Disasters not only impact the general population, but also health care providers who are in the challenging position of responding to new medical emergencies, as well as protecting and continuing care for patients who are already in their facilities.

The Exchange newsletter, a publication of The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, recently featured stories from health care providers who lived through natural disasters. The interview-style stories give firsthand accounts of what it is like to evacuate a health care facility. The newsletter also includes valuable resources and links to a plethora of information.
