The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Nov. 15 released the updated Hospice Item Set (HIS) manual, which includes additional guidance based on provider feedback from the Hospice Quality Help Desk to clarify HIS coding instructions.
No updates were made to HIS items or the HIS itself. Providers can review the change table for a quick glance at updates made to the HIS Manual. Any hospice that does not comply with the data submission requirements for any given reporting year shall have its market basket update, also known as the Annual Payment Update (APU), reduced by 2 percentage points for the relevant fiscal year.
