Each year the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) recognizes the top 20 Rural Communities Hospitals (RCH) from a list of the Top 100 RCHs as determined by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. The 20 overall winners have achieved success based on the Hospital Strength Index, a nationwide hospital rating system that evaluates rural perspective payment system (PPS) hospital market, value-based and financial measures. The Top 20 RCH winners are honored during an awards ceremony at the NRHA’s Rural Hospital Innovation Summit on May 9 in Atlanta.
This year, South Dakota Hospitals, Brookings Health System, Prairie Lakes Healthcare System, and Avera St. Mary’s Hospital have been named in the top 20. In 2018, four South Dakota hospitals were named in the top 20.
