On June 17, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) announced that their COVID-19 Claims Reimbursement to Health Care Providers and Facilities for Testing, Treatment, and Vaccine Administration for the Uninsured Program has paid over 5 million claims for COVID-19 vaccines. The HRSA program covers COVID-19 vaccine reimbursement, as well as COVID-19 testing and treatment claims for those without health insurance.
HRSA states that around 29 million uninsured individuals are living across the country, and the Uninsured Program aims to curb the spread of the virus by ensuring cost is not a barrier for neither the individuals nor healthcare providers.
In 2019, 9.2% of the U.S population and 10.2% of the South Dakota population were uninsured. Acting HRSA Administrator Diana Espinosa states, “…we want everyone living in the United States to be able to get vaccinated as soon as possible so we can defeat this pandemic.”
