SDAHO Welcomes Jacob Parsons as Director of Fiscal Policy

The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations welcomes Jacob Parsons! Jacob recently joined SDAHO as the Director of Fiscal Policy. Within this position Jacob will monitor state and federal fiscal policy changes, analyze, and interpret those changes and communicate the information to SDAHO members. As part of the advocacy team Jacob will play an integral role during the legislative session, connecting with lawmakers and ensuring SDAHO members are kept up to date on legislation important to the healthcare community. ā€œI am excited for the opportunity to meet healthcare administrators and professionals across the state and find ways to help make their jobs easier.ā€ ā€“ Jacob Parsons.

Jacob previously worked within the South Dakota Department of Health, serving the state for seven years. The first two years Jacob was the Recruitment Program Coordinator. There he helped rural healthcare facilities with recruitment via the Recruitment Assistance Program. ā€œAfter having worked with rural facilities in a previous position, I am happy to be back working with them on fiscal issues.ā€ ā€“ Jacob Parsons. After his role with the SD Department of Rural Health, Ā Jacob was the Tobacco Control Program Director overseeing CDC grants and state funding for prevention education and cessation services of tobacco products. Jacob’s most recent position within state government was the Bureau of Finance and Management, as a Budget Analyst. In this role he worked with the Department of Social Services, Board of Regents, Department of Public Safety, and others on their annual budget requests.

In his new role with SDAHO, Jacob will work remotely from Pierre and with is previous work experience, Jacob is ready to hit the ground running. Working through the 2021 and 2022 budgets with the Bureau of Finance and Management provided a great foundation on how South Dakotaā€™s annual budget is developed. Working with administrators and health students across the state on the Recruitment Assistance Programs provided a good background to many of the rural facilities in the state.

Jacob was born and raised in Pierre, South Dakota. He attended the University of South Dakota where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Health Services Administration. He is currently working towards a Master of Business Administration Degree through USD, which he anticipates completing by May 2022. Jacob and his wife Katie have two children and when he is not working, he is an active runner often training for a race. He and his wife also enjoy boating and spending time with family and friends.
