Senate Bill 43 – Addition for a Health Sciences Center at Black Hills State University–Rapid City

​State lawmakers have pushed forward a bill that will allow for the design, renovation, and construction of an addition for a health sciences center at the Black Hills State University (BHSU) -Rapid City Campus. The joint effort between BHSU and South Dakota State University will result in more graduating nursing students.

Members of the Senate Education Committee considered the measure and unanimously approved referring Senate Bill 43 to the Joint Committee of Appropriations, where it will be scheduled for an additional hearing.

President Laurie Nichols of BHSU explained the mechanics of the measure, while SDAHO CEO Tim Rave testified in favor of SB 43, explaining the workforce crisis impacting healthcare in South Dakota and how this measure will be a solution to that crisis.
