Brookings Health System Featured in National AHA Publication: Seizing the Conversation

Brookings Health System was recently featured in a national initiative publication from the American Hospital Association (AHA) titled, Seizing the Conversation. The project features case studies from across the country, highlighting the role hospitals play in their community. Hospitals and healthcare workers have stood strong for their communities, even as they battled COVID-19 and the challenges they faced during the pandemic.  Hospital and healthcare professionals have a vital role in our society to keep communities healthy and AHA is sharing those stories through their latest initiative, which now includes Brookings Health System.

Caring and Sharing: Home is Where the Heart is, is a program created and fostered by Brooking Health during the height of the pandemic. The program was created after the Brookings Health System Foundation recognized that many of the employees were feeling “burnt out”, after facing longer working hours, and added stress as they were spending less time at home taking care of their own families and needs. Home is Where the Heart Is, is a workforce wellness program that recognizes employees for their dedication and help in providing resources to support the physical and mental well-being of the hospital’s staff and families.

Employees who work 100 hours or more per pay period receive vouchers for meals for their families and four hours of cleaning services to cover items such as house cleaning or laundry. SDAHO featured the Home is Where the Heart is Program in Feb. of 2021. AHA is now showcasing this program in their national initiative Seizing the Conversation. You can read the AHA article here.

AHA is still looking for stories. Do you have a story to tell? You can consider submitting examples of the many ways your hospital/ health system benefits your community via this form.

  • Share your pandemic experiences: Are you a caregiver that has worked through the COVID-19 pandemic? If you are willing to share your important perspective, please consider joining your fellow health care employees who have shared their experiences during the difficulties of the COVID-19 pandemic #WeAreHealthcare initiative. If interested, please email AHA for more information.
  • Identify a hospital ambassador: AHA is working to amplify the field’s collective voice by creating a group of hospital and health system ambassadors to tell their hospital story through op-eds, audio news releases and other AHA-supported media opportunities. Sign up for more information about how your hospital can join us in balancing the narrative with a stronger chorus of hospital examples and voices. If interested, please add an ambassador via this form.
