The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) serves members across the state of South Dakota, offering education, advocacy, networking, and quality integration. Today these services touch all corners of our state giving members better access to SDAHO resources and experienced staff. Michelle Hofer, BNS, RN, CPHQ, is one of two SDAHO Clinical Improvement Consultants, making a difference for SDAHO’s members.
Michelle is part of SDAHO’s Quality team and serves north central, east and north-east South Dakota from her home office in Huron. Part of her responsibilities include working with member facilities in evaluating processes to help ensure quality and safety for the patients being cared for. “We like to try and visit with those we serve, in-person at an event or at their facility at least once a year. We also try to be available anytime a member facility would request assistance, we can meet virtually even the same day.” Michelle Hofer, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Clinical Improvement Consultant, SDAHO
Michelle also assists members with data entry, problem solving and help connect hospitals with one another to share ideas and network. “I honestly enjoy everything about the work I do here at SDAHO. The collaboration and networking is very important to me and I am always looking for ways to improve and working on those improvements and seeing the results of those efforts.” Michelle Hofer, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Clinical Improvement Consultant, SDAHO
Michelle grew up on a farm in Hazel, South Dakota and it was in high school where she would recognize her true passion for healthcare working as a nurse’s aide in long-term care. “I always enjoyed doing the very best job I could to take care of the residents and getting to know them. Healthcare has always been a part of my life.” Michelle Hofer, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Clinical Improvement Consultant, SDAHO
After high school Michelle attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Out of college, she worked in the neonatal intensive care unit at Sioux Valley in Sioux Falls. She also worked in clinical research before moving to Huron in 2005 where she worked in Home Health/ Hospice and Community Health.
Michelle joined the SDAHO Team in 2021 and her years of experience has helped make the Quality Department one of the leading experts in quality in the region, which directly supports our members. “SDAHO has a very dedicated Quality Team. We take pride in what we do every day, providing resources and working to be the experts in quality that our members know and trust. We take quality seriously and we value the work our members do, and we are proud to work alongside our members to help them with all their quality and safety efforts.” Michelle Hofer, BSN, RN, CPHQ, Clinical Improvement Consultant, SDAHO
When Michelle is not working, she enjoys spending time with her family and traveling. “Justin is my boyfriend who works for the national guard, and I have two boys, Blake a freshman at Dakota State University in Madison, Conner is a sophomore at Huron High School and our daughter Leilani.  I enjoy traveling to warm tropical places, I enjoy tent camping and I enjoy photography.”
