The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) is excited to introduce our Quality Video Project. This project will highlight quality professionals and what they think quality means within their own facilities.
The Institute of Medicine defines healthcare quality as “the degree to which healthcare services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge.” In addition, the Institute of Medicine also lays out the key elements or six domains of healthcare quality.
- Patient Safety
- Effectiveness
- Patient-centered
- Timeliness
- Efficiency
- Equity
SDAHO knows that our members who work in quality use the definition and elements listed above, but there is so much more to quality. Work location, facility size, patient population, and our co-workers can create different quality elements. Some of SDAHO’s members have said that within their facilities quality also means:
- Assessment
- Management Guidelines
- Cost Transparency
- Accountability
- Safety Improvement
- Tools
- Coordination
- Pathways
