Transition to Electronic CLIA Notification by March 1, 2026

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is modernizing the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) program by transitioning to electronic delivery of fee coupons and certificates. Effective March 1, 2026, all CLIA-related communications will be sent exclusively via email. After this date, paper fee coupons and CLIA certificates will no longer be available.

What You Need to Do:

  • Confirm or Update Your Email Address: Ensure CMS has your current email on file to receive timely notifications.
  • Opt In for Electronic Notifications: If you haven’t already, notify the South Dakota CLIA office to begin receiving electronic communications. Contact the South Dakota CLIA office at SDCLIA@state.sd.us.

For more information, visit the South Dakota Department of Health CLIA page.
