The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations encourages members to take some time to learn more about HAVHOPE Friday (Hospitals Against Violence) and what resources SDAHO has to offer.
Friday June 6, 2025 is the National Day of Awareness to end violence. Through both the American Hospital Association (AHA) and SDAHO there are a wide variety of resources to help hospitals and health systems combat violence in the workplace and communities.
Violence Mitigation Strategy: Leadership should push for greater data collection, collective accountability, and ongoing education and training. With this approach, we can achieve the four pillars necessary for implementing a comprehensive violence mitigation strategy: trauma support, violence intervention, culture of safety and mitigating risk.
- Trauma Support – Enable pathways to recognize physical and non-physical trauma, recover, build resiliency and avoid re-traumatization.
- Culture of Safety – Prioritize physical and psychological safety of the workforce, patients, families and communities.
- Violence Intervention – Collaborate with community partners, hospital-based programs and others to prevent ongoing or future violent incidents.
- Mitigate Risk – Assess potential risks and work together to reduce risks and improve the environment.
SDAHO has cultivated a robust library of learning opportunities to assist members with the tools they need to create safe working environment. Working together through partnerships we continue to look at innovations and creative thinking to help all of us foster peace and make safer environments for workers and patients.
