The South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) recently participated in the South Dakota Department of Health’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response Infectious Disease Capstone Exercise, held October 1, 2025, in Fort Pierre.
SDAHO was represented by Michelle Jury, BSN, RN, Clinical Improvement Consultant, who joined participants from Sanford Health, county emergency management offices, and Department of Health divisions including laboratory, epidemiology, public health preparedness and response, and EMS.
The exercise, facilitated by the CAPTRS Team, used an interactive game format to strengthen coordination and communication among response partners. Participants worked through a simulated scenario designed to test decision-making and collaboration during an infectious disease event.
CAPTRS, a nonprofit organization, develops research-based preparedness games that help leaders across public health, healthcare, and emergency management build the skills and systems needed to respond to future health threats.
SDAHO’s involvement in this exercise supports statewide efforts to refine response plans, enhance coordination, and improve readiness for future public health emergencies.
