New guardian health care education video now available: CPR training

LifeCircle-South Dakota’s Hospice and Palliative Care Network along with the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations (SDAHO) announce the sixth video in the Guardian Healthcare Education series is now available on the website. The latest video, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training is designed to help guardians better understand the benefits and burdens of CPR when asked about their protected person’s code status. The video addresses common myths and facts surrounding CPR, providing clear, practical information to support informed decision-making.

Guardians play a vital role in health care, helping to make decisions with—and on behalf of—their protected person. These decisions are often complex and emotionally challenging. Yet many guardians receive little to no training for this responsibility, including how to involve their protected person in discussions, how to honor their values and preferences, and how to fully understand the benefits and burdens of available medical options. Without this foundational knowledge, it can be difficult for guardians to feel confident that they are making truly informed decisions.
To address this gap, LifeCircle has developed a series of short, topic-specific training videos to educate and support guardians in their health care role. Each video presents information in a clear, straightforward manner, offering factual guidance to help reduce uncertainty and concerns when medical decisions arise. Every video is accompanied by a worksheet that allows guardians to note questions for their protected person and their health care provider, helping to guide meaningful conversations and thoughtful decision-making.
