WalletHub, a personal finance website known for data-driven rankings and comparisons, evaluated all 50 states and Washington, D.C. using 19 key metrics. These were grouped into two main categories: “Opportunity & Competition” (70%)—including physician wages, job availability, and projected demand—and “Medical Environment” (30%), which looks at factors like hospital quality, malpractice climate, and physician burnout. Each state received a weighted score based on these measures to determine overall rankings.
