Governors from 19 states are gathered in Rapid City this week for the Western Governors’ Association annual meeting. The governors will participate in public discussions on significant issues facing the West, including land management, environmental challenges of wildfire and more. Gov. Daugaard will present a first-year report on his Chairman’s Initiative, the Western Governors’ Workforce Development Initiative.
One point of discussion Wednesday morning will be the opioid epidemic. Panelists will discuss the need for treatment options and examine processes to reduce addiction opportunities, including alternative pain treatments and prescription reforms.
