February 2019 marks the 10-year anniversary of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, which sparked the near universal adoption of electronic health record (EHRs). However, Errors Happen Regularly and Everyone Has Responsibilities when it comes to the usability and safety of this technology. Awareness and collaboration must heighten to drive improvements in the next decade. MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare has teamed up with the American Medical Association to launch a major EHR usability and safety campaign to raise awareness of these issues that are impacting patient safety and clinician burnout.
